Snoop Dogg is a rapper, singer, songwriter, producer, media personality, business owner, and actor from the West Coast. Snoop Dogg’s net worth is $150 million as of this writing. When he was discovered by Dr. Dre in 1992, his musical career got underway. He later released a number of timeless songs and albums with the Death Row Records imprint. One of the richest and most popular rappers to emerge from the 1990s rap industry, Snoop Dogg is also one of the few who is still actively recording music today.
Early Life
Cordozar On October 20, 1971, Calvin Broadus was born in Long Beach, California. Three months after Snoop’s birth, his parents Vernall and Beverly divorced. He didn’t spend much time with his father. He mother got remarried. Because of how much he adored the Peanuts comic character, his mother and stepfather gave him the moniker Snoopy.
The second of his mother’s three boys, he was born. At the Golgotha Trinity Baptist Church, Snoop started singing and playing the piano when he was very little. He began rapping in sixth grade. Calvin bagged groceries, sold sweets, and delivered newspapers as a youngster to support his family.
In spite of his mother’s greatest attempts, he started gang banging and running the streets in his adolescent years, despite her best efforts to keep him playing football and singing in the choir. He belonged to the Eastside of Long Beach’s Rollin’ 20s Crips gang. Shortly after graduating from high school, he was detained for cocaine possession. The following three years saw him often going in and out of jail or prison.
In addition to pal Warren G, Snoop also recorded cassettes with his cousins Nate Dogg and Lil’ 1/2 Dead. They gave themselves the number 213 in honour of the local Long Beach area code at the time. A mixtape that ended up in Dr. Dre’s possession contained “Hold On,” one of Snoop’s early solo freestyle tunes.
He connected Snoop to NWA affiliate The D.O.C., who showed him how to arrange his rhymes and create verses, hooks, and choruses, and was so impressed that he invited Snoop to audition.
Career
Dr. Dre produced Snoop’s debut album, Doggystyle, which was released by Death Row Records in 1993. The album debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums lists, respectively. What’s My Name? and “Gin & Juice” were two of the album’s many popular songs.
The following Snoop album, Doggfather, came out in 1996 and debuted at the top of both Billboard charts. Snoop quit Death Row and joined No Limit Records for his subsequent three albums. He issued the albums Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told (1998), No Limit Top Dogg (1999), and Tha Last Meal (2000).
He then signed with Priority/Capitol/EMI Records and issued Paid tha Cost to Be da Boss in 2002. In 2004, he joined Geffen Records and released R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta: The Masterpiece, That Blue Carpet Treatment, Ego Trippin, Malice ‘n Wonderland, and Doggumentary).
In addition, he oversees a high school football team and a youth football league. Snoop was appointed chairman of Priority Records by EMI in September 2009.
Snoop revealed in 2012 that he had converted to Rastafarianism and would henceforth be known as Snoop Lion following a trip to Jamaica. In addition to a documentary with the same name about his time in Jamaica, he also released the reggae CD Reincarnated.
He dropped Bush and changed his name back to Snoop Dogg in 2015. Snoop released his debut gospel album, Bible of Love, the same year he revealed he was a born-again Christian. In 2019, he issued I Wanna Thank Me, his sixteenth solo album.
Along with making music, Snoop has also directed multiple pornographic movies under the aliases Michael J. Corleone and Snoop Scorcese. Death Row Records
The brand name rights to Death Row Records were acquired by Snoop Dogg, it was revealed in February 2022. Blackstone, a major player in private equity, sold him the brand, but it still retains ownership of the label’s master recordings and music royalties. Snoop may now use Death Row Records to create songs and sell items thanks to the brand name.
Personal Life
Snoop wed Shante Taylor, whom he had known since high school, on June 12, 1997. The couple divorced in May 2004. In January 2008, they got back together and exchanged new vows. Corde (1994), Cordell (1997), and Cori (1997, their third child) are their three children (1999).
Another child from a relationship with Laurie Holmond is Julian Corrie Broadus, born in 1998. In 2015, Corde and his partner Jessica Kyzer gave birth to a kid, making Snoop a grandfather.
